  1. I'm sick of Notre Dame getting the benefit of the doubt because of its history, prestige, and name. Look at that schedule: Wisconsin, Rice, Michigan State, Purdue, North Carolina, and Stanford. BYU and Miami are the biggest tests left, with SMU another meaningful matchup. Meanwhile, Big Ten and SEC teams have to grind through conference schedules full of ranked opponents and contenders every year. Notre Dame gets to operate independently, build its schedule around its own priorities, and still expect to be treated like an elite program. If you want to be the best, PLAY THE BEST. Don't pad your record against weaker competition all season and wait until the CFP to find out how good you really are.

Honestly, with NIL and the transfer portal changing college football, why not let every school operate independently and schedule whoever they want, like Notre Dame does? Players transfer for better opportunities and money, rosters change every year, and some of the old rivalries aren't what they used to be. Let teams schedule heavyweight matchups nationwide and make the regular season mean something. Keep the rivalries that matter, but stop acting like conference tradition and program prestige are sacred.

And I'm not saying Notre Dame is a bad program or never plays good teams. I'm saying its reputation shouldn't do the heavy lifting when it comes to rankings and playoff selection. If Notre Dame joined a major conference, it would have to face that weekly competition while still trying to schedule quality nonconference opponents. Every loss would matter, and there'd be nowhere to hide behind a carefully constructed schedule. If every school went independent, there would need to be scheduling standards and a fair playoff system so teams couldn't simply avoid tough opponents.

At the end of the day, history should earn you respect, NOT special treatment. If Notre Dame wants to be considered one of the best, prove it against the best throughout the regular season, not just when the CFP arrives. RESUMÉS OVER REPUTATIONS. Stop rewarding the name on the helmet and start rewarding what teams actually accomplish on the field.
