Soccer Stories Hitting The Headlines

Sunderland striker Andy Cole has been questioned by police after an alleged assault on his wife. He was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning at his home in Cheshire. He was released on Monday night, pending further inquiries.

Seven current and former players with Swiss top division side FC Thun are to stand trial following the completion of a police investigation into allegations of underage sex.

Juventus have written to the Italian FA, FIGC, in protest about the amount of dodgy decisions that have gone against them this season.

They claim that they are still paying the price for the so-called Calciopoli scandal that rocked Italian football 2 years ago and saw them relegated to SerieB.

Things came to a head on Saturday when they were controversially beaten by Reginna at Reginna by 2-1 with a last minute penalty awarded to the home side when Juventus themselves had been denied 2 clear cut penalties earlier in the game.

However there are some clubs that are not sympathising with their plight as local rivals Torino have ridiculed their stance by stating «Poor Juve, having to be treated like everyone else,» a statement from supporters group Toro Club reads.

«For 100 years their millions of fans have been above all the rules and then suddenly they have suffered like everyone else has against them.»

Torino President Urbano Cairo was also unhappy with the timing of the letter went on to state that «On the eve of a derby certain controversies are out of place and those that use that confrontational tone with referees should be strongly sanctioned,» he roared.

«Juve have their reasons, but it’s the same for everyone.»

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi was not ready to offer any sympathies either as he scoffed that «For me the letter is tactless,» he said. «If they want to moan then what should we do? If Juve wrote a letter then Genoa should write a book or a dossier.»

All that remains now is for teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid to formally protest about the poor decisions that have gone against them this season too.

Real Madrid footballers have promised their fans not to celebrate a goal until their 100% sure it has not been disallowed.

This follows their blunder on Sunday evening against Getafe where 6 of their players including the Raul, Ruud Van Nistlerooy, Fabio Cannavaro, Sergio Ramos, Arjen Robben were busy celebrating a goal not realising it had been disallowed for Raul being offside before Robben scored and Getafe went down the other end to score.

The shock result cut Real Madrid’s lead at the top to 2 points from fierce rivals Barcelona, who had earlier in the day thumped Levante 5-1 with striker Samuel Etoo getting a hat-trick.
