The Italian giants are the most successful Italian clubs in terms of the European cup and are the current European Champions league champions. Down the years they have produced so many flamboyant and fantastic players and again like so many giants of club football, it will be churlish to pick just the 1 team.
Goal Keeper
This is perhaps the 1 areas in which Milan have not produced a genuine world class talent down the years. They have had decent goal keepers but compared to their rivals like Inter Milan and Juventus, they are lacking in this department. For my first team, I have gone for Sebastiano Rossi who was very decent and had a knack of stopping penalties. He once held the record of most consecutive clean sheets in serieA beating Dino Zoff, but he was then overtaken by another Juventus legend Gigi Buffon.
Defenders
Right back
Milan have had many very good right backs like Christian Panucci, Cafu and now Massimo Oddo amongst others but I have gone for Mauro Tassotti, one of the members of Milan’s fab four in defence in the 80s and early 90s. He was excellent going forward and defending.
Left Back
They have been blessed as well, in this department, with so many great players in this position but 1 man just dominates that position and that is Paolo Maldini, who is quite simply amongst the top 3 complete defenders to have ever lived.
Centre backs
Though he is a very good defender in his own right and an inspirational captain to boot, one of the reasons I have chosen Cesare Maldini is because of his more illustrious son. His partner in that position were there have been so many fantastic players for Milan down the years, but I have gone for the incomparable Franco Baresi, who would get my vote as the finest defender ever.
Right winger
I have gone for the current Italian coach and one of Italy’s finest ever players in Roberto Donadoni.
Central Midfield
We will be here all day if I start to list all the great midfielders to have graced this great club. I have gone for Frank Rijkard and Gianni Rivera
Left winger
I have gone for Ruud Gullit as I had to fit him into the team somehow as he was a fantastic athlete and player.
Strikers
There have been a plethora of high quality strikers to have played for this club but I cab only pick 2, so I have gone for 2 of the very finest. Marco Van Basten, who is the most complete striker I have ever seen and Andriy Shevchencko who runs him close in terms of ability as a Milan striker.
Team 2
Goalkeeper
I have gone for Dida over Fabio Cudicini, Geovani Galli and Enrico Albertosi
Defence
I have gone for Fullvio Collovati, Fillipo Galli and Karl-Heinz Schellinger who was a no nonsense defender and a fantastic man-marker.
Midfield
Carlo Ancellotti, a fantastic central midfielder with a great shot on him, Dejan Savicevic, the genius, with a fantastic left foot. He is fondly remembered for his fantastic chip in the champions league final against Barcelona. Nils Liedholm is my next midfielder, who was an excellent passer of the ball and I have decided to go for Dimitro Albertini over Andrea Pirlo and Giovanni Lodetti.
Attackers
I have gone for George Weah, who was unstoppable when he was at his best. Gunnar Nordahl who was a goal machine as his record shows as he has got 225 goals in serieA. My final choice is another goal machine and that is Jose Altafini.
I feel awful having to leave out legends of the game like Pirlo, Gatusso, Seedorf, Boban, Desailly, Marco Simone, Danielle Massaro, and Alessandro Costacurta amongst others.
