It may not seem like a big result to the younger viewers now but back then Juve were just as GNev said a great side, arguably THE side. Juve had an abundance of really talented players, a who's who of mid-late 90s football and had been to the previous 3 UCL Finals. English teams win regulary now at the big sides and stadiums but back then it was pretty rare, especially being 2-0 down in Turin.
Keano in this return leg is arguably the best individual performance ever from a United player in Europe
Keane was actually United's best player in the first leg but Edgar Davids absolutely stole the show and was fantastic at Old Trafford. Keane said after the game that he should have got tighter to Davids and that he was paying too much attention to Zidane in the first leg. He definitely kept his word as he got the better of Davids in the second leg. Both great players, but Keane won that battle and the tie.
I remember as a young teenager watching the Barcelona dream team of 1992 lift the Champions League – Stoichkov, Romário, Laudrup, etc….The following season Utd get knocked out of CL by Galatasary…..and I just thought Utd would never be able to get to Barcelona's superstar level. The CL in 1999 was the most exciting football I have ever seen in my life to watch. Goal-fest every game. …Utd were phenomenal that year. Beckham probably the most famous dude on the planet in 99. Keane the best central midfielder around. Yorke, Giggs, Scholes and Cole all unplayable. Ole always supersub hero.
